Minister K Krishnankutty: Government Contemplates Power Cut Alternatives Amid Frequent Rainfall Prospects

Minister of Electricity, K Krishnankutty, has clarified that the government may reconsider implementing power cuts as a means to compensate for losses in the sector. He emphasized that if everyone cooperates by reducing power usage in the evenings and if Kerala experiences frequent rainfall, the need for load shedding can be avoided. The minister further explained that the electricity board has requested regulatory measures, but the preference is to avoid them unless consumption becomes uncontrollably high. Krishnankutty also stressed the importance of focusing on the electricity production sector.

In a recent announcement, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) urged the public to reduce electricity consumption from 7 pm to 11 pm to prevent the need for electricity regulation in the state. Due to limited electricity availability in Kerala, regulatory options are being considered. KSEB also advised consumers to minimize their use of non-essential electrical appliances to help avoid regulation.
