Kiran, Vismaya’s husband, has revealed to police that he used to assault her.

In a new step in the continuing investigation into the Vismaya dowry killing case, police say her husband Kiran Kumar has admitted to assaulting her in the past. Rajkumar P, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Sasthamkotta, told TNM, “Kiran has confessed that he used to abuse her.” There is no new information as of now. The evidence gathered today was based on the knowledge we have thus far.”

On Tuesday, June 29, the Kollam rural police started an evidence gathering operation in the case, taking Kiran to different locations, including his home in Poruvazhy, near Kollam’s Sooranad, where Vismaya V Nair was found dead on June 22.

Vismaya, a final-year Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery student, was discovered dead at her in-house law’s in the early hours of June 22. Following her death, it was revealed that she had notified a family member about her husband’s assault and torture. She had texted a cousin several photographs of her bruises. Following this, Vismaya’s family discussed how they had paid dowry, but Kiran was still dissatisfied.

Dr Sasikala, forensic expert from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College who performed Vismaya’s post-mortem, was present at the evidence collecting in Kiran’s house. The investigating officer in the case told the reporters that the forensic expert was shown the location where Vismaya was found hanging. “The doctor has collected measurements from the location. When questioned if the death was a suicide or a murder, the investigation officer stated, “She will provide her view when she studies it thoroughly.”

Kiran was also escorted to the Kollam district home of a Kerala Police Home Guard. Kiran had assaulted Vismaya while they were driving from her house to his a few days after their wedding. During this period, Vismaya fled to the home guard’s house for protection. The family provided a statement to the investigative authorities regarding the incident, which allegedly occurred days after their wedding in May 2020. The woman told the reporters that Vismaya came running to their house crying.“She stated he was fighting with her on the way from Kollam, that the automobile or its seat was bad,” the woman explained. Meanwhile, she also stated that when Kiran returned, Vismaya accompanied him. Vismaya highlighted the car that was presented as dowry, but Kiran was dissatisfied with it.

Vismaya’s gold, which was held in the bank’s locker, was also retrieved by police on Tuesday. Kiran’s relatives and friends will be questioned by the police far too soon. Notably, in interviews with several media outlets following her death, Kiran’s father and mother gave conflicting accounts of the events leading up to Vismaya’s death. While they admitted in one interview that Kiran and Vismaya were fighting on June 21st, they blamed her parents for causing strife, which led to her death.
