G20 Summit Commences in Delhi, Showcasing India on the Global Stage

The G20 summit, spanning two days, is set to begin today in Delhi, shining a spotlight on India’s global presence. Hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this event will witness the participation of 40 dignitaries, including heads of G20 nations, invited countries, and representatives from international organizations. The summit will take place at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan.

In accordance with the summit’s theme of “Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam” (The world is one family), discussions will revolve around three key sessions: “One Earth,” “One Family,” and “One Future,” all to be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Additionally, bilateral meetings among leaders will also be held, with the first session, “One Earth,” scheduled for 9 am today and the second session, “One Family,” to be conducted in the afternoon.

World leaders will pay a visit to Rajghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, on the concluding day, where saplings will be planted at Bharat Mandapam. The summit will culminate with the “One Future” session, and the G20 presidency will transition to Brazil during the closing ceremony, marking the end of India’s term on November 30 and Brazil taking over on December 1.

President Draupadi Murmu will host a dinner for world leaders, chief ministers, and former prime ministers at 8 pm, with around 400 guests in attendance. Distinguished heads of state, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Oman Prime Minister Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, have arrived in Delhi for the summit. India’s efforts to grant permanent membership to the African Union, comprising 55 African countries, in the G20 are expected to bear fruit, with African Union Chairperson and Comoros President Azali Assoumani also joining the summit.

Key topics on the summit agenda include discussions on the global economy and climate change, food security and sustainable agriculture, modernization and digitalization, health and well-being, and anti-terrorism and security. The schedule for today’s events includes the inauguration at 9 am, followed by sessions on the global economy, weather change, food security, modernization, and digitalization. Tomorrow’s agenda covers health and wellness at 9 am, followed by discussions on terrorism and security at 11 am, concluding with the closing ceremony at 1 pm. The summit is poised to amplify the voices of developing countries in the Global South, and leaders are ready to accept the New Delhi declaration.
