Vizhinjam Port Project Causes Strain Between State and Centre Over Promotion Tactics

The promotion of the Vizhinjam port as a state government project has led to tensions between the state and the centre, jeopardizing loan allocations. Despite receiving financial assistance from the centre, the state government’s aggressive promotion of the port project has been perceived as politically motivated. The centre has expressed displeasure, alleging that the state is using the project for its own political campaign.

The central government allocated a loan of Rs 1925 crore to the state for infrastructure development, with Rs 1081 crore earmarked for the Vizhinjam port construction. However, the state’s focus on its own role in the project and silence on the centre’s significant contribution has raised concerns. The state contends that the port will benefit the entire country and emphasizes the importance of the centre’s involvement in the project.
