Aditya-L1’s SUIT Captures First Full-Disk Images of the Sun in Ultraviolet Wavelengths

The Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) instrument aboard the Aditya-L1 spacecraft has achieved a significant milestone by capturing the first full-disk images of the Sun in the 200-400 nm wavelength range. The images, obtained using various scientific filters, showcase the Sun’s photosphere and chromosphere. The successful capture, initiated on November 20, 2023, and featuring eleven different filters, provides unprecedented insights into features like sunspots, plage, and quiet Sun regions. SUIT’s observations will contribute to studying the dynamic interactions in the magnetized solar atmosphere and offer valuable data to understand the effects of solar radiation on Earth’s climate, according to ISRO.
