Kerala Government Imposes Rs 10 Fee on Students for SSLC Model Exam Question Papers

In an unusual decision, the Kerala Government has introduced a fee for students appearing in the upcoming SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) model examinations. As per a circular issued by the state General Education Department, students are required to pay Rs 10 to the government before the commencement of the SSLC model exams scheduled for February 19.

The circular justifies the fee by stating that it is intended to cover the expenses associated with printing and delivering the question papers. Notably, this marks the first instance of the government imposing a monetary charge on students for the preparation of question papers.

In response to this move, the Kerala Students Union (KSU) has expressed strong opposition and issued a warning of statewide protests unless the government withdraws the order. As part of the planned protest, a march will be organized under the leadership of KSU district committees, heading towards education offices across the state.

The imposition of a fee for SSLC model exam question papers has raised concerns and sparked criticism from various quarters. Students and parents are expressing discontent over the unexpected financial burden on students, particularly during an already challenging academic period.

The government’s decision to introduce this fee has ignited a debate on the appropriateness of such charges and the potential impact on students’ access to education. The situation is evolving, and further developments, including responses from education authorities and stakeholders, are awaited.
