Adani Group to Establish Massive Green Hydrogen Plant in Vizhinjam, Aiming for Substantial Export and Job Creation

The Adani Group has announced a colossal green hydrogen production project near Vizhinjam port, with an ambitious target to generate 1100 kilotons of green hydrogen in three phases. This initiative, spearheaded by Adani New Industries, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, involves an investment of Rs 26,400 crores. The project is set to create direct employment opportunities for 5000 individuals and an additional 18000 jobs indirectly. The development, subject to regulatory approvals, aims to harness the full potential of Vizhinjam port for international green hydrogen export, positioning the Adani Group at the forefront of the green energy revolution.

To power the green hydrogen plant, an impressive 6 GW capacity solar plant will be constructed at Vizhinjam, requiring an annual consumption of 14,000 million units of electricity. Simultaneously, a seawater treatment plant will be established to meet the 50 million cubic meters of water needed for the project. It’s worth noting that the construction costs of these vital facilities are not included in the overall project budget. Adani New Industries, responsible for overseeing the Adani Group’s solar, wind, and associated manufacturing units, envisions a gradual increase in production capacity, starting with 100 kilotons of green hydrogen per year and scaling up by 500 kilotons every three years. The initiative aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s goal of producing 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen in India by 2030, contributing significantly to reducing the country’s fossil fuel imports and fostering a sustainable energy landscape.
