Kerala Braces for Summer Showers and High Temperatures; Yellow Alert Issued
Kerala is set to experience relief from the intense heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas across the state until May 14. The IMD has issued an alert indicating the possibility of rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching up to 50 km per hour across all districts.
A yellow alert has been sounded in Wayanad district, with expected rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a span of 24 hours. Furthermore, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts are anticipated to receive light to moderate rainfall by 5:30 pm on Friday, according to the latest forecast.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has cautioned the public to exercise extreme caution to prevent lightning strikes. Residents are advised to remain indoors and refrain from using telephones and electrical devices during the inclement weather.
Additionally, the IMD has issued a high-temperature warning for eight districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The warning is in place as temperatures in these districts are expected to soar to 36 degrees Celsius.
