Heatwave Alert: Palakkad Records 41˚C, Yellow Alert Issued for Kerala

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Palakkad, Kerala, from April 24-26 as the mercury levels soared to 41˚C, marking the highest temperature recorded in the state. The alert comes in response to the extreme heat experienced in the district over the past few days, with expectations of continued high temperatures. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for all districts in Kerala except Idukki and Wayanad due to the rising mercury levels.

According to the IMD alert, maximum temperatures in various districts are expected to range from 36˚C to 41˚C, significantly above normal, till April 28. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has advised the public to take extreme caution to prevent heatstroke, a life-threatening condition caused by overheating. Precautions include staying indoors during the daytime, staying hydrated, and avoiding outdoor activities. Additionally, IMD has forecasted light to moderate rainfall in isolated places across the state till April 28.
