The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall in Kerala in the coming days due to strong westerly winds. Northern districts of the state and Idukki district are expected to receive more rainfall.
On Saturday, an orange alert was sounded in Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. These areas may experience up to 20 cm of rainfall within 24 hours. A red alert was issued on Sunday for Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur districts.
On Monday, an orange alert is in place for Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kasaragod districts. A yellow alert has been issued for other districts. The districts of Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod are likely to continue experiencing heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Due to adverse weather conditions, fishing has been prohibited along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts until June 25. The IMD’s warnings highlight the need for caution and preparedness in the affected regions.
