Kerala is on high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts sustained heavy rainfall and strong winds due to an off-shore trough extending from South Gujarat to northern Kerala. The active monsoon is expected to bring widespread rain to the region, with significant weather events forecasted for the coming days.
Rainfall Forecast (July 29 – August 3):
Most areas in Kerala are expected to experience rain or thundershowers until August 3. Lakshadweep will also see increased rainfall, particularly from July 30 onwards.
Yellow Alert:
July 29: Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm in 24 hours) is forecasted for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.
July 30: The yellow alert continues for Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
July 31: Kannur and Kasaragod will remain under a yellow alert.
Wind Warnings:
July 29: Expect strong surface winds (30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph) across Kerala. Fishermen are advised to be cautious.
July 29-31: Squally weather with wind speeds reaching up to 55 kmph is likely over the Gulf of Mannar, Arabian Sea, and Bay of Bengal. Fishermen should avoid venturing into these areas.
High Wave Warning:
Special vigilance is advised for the coasts of Kannur and Kasaragod due to high waves (2.9 to 3.1 meters) predicted until July 30, 11:30 PM. Similar warnings are in effect for Lakshadweep, Karnataka, and Mahe coasts.
