India’s Neeraj Chopra, who captured the gold in javelin throw at the previous Olympics, clinched the silver medal at the Paris Olympics with a best throw of 89.45 meters. Despite his best efforts, Chopra was unable to defend his title as Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan emerged victorious with a throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record. Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54 meters.
Chopra’s performance was marked by a series of challenges, including four foul throws that hindered his chances of gold. His silver-winning throw came on his second attempt, but he was unable to surpass his season best, which was achieved in the qualification round with a throw of 89.34 meters. Despite his strong qualification performance, Chopra’s final attempts were marred by fouls, including his first and third attempts, which were invalidated. Nadeem’s gold-winning throw of 92.97 meters was a highlight, with his final attempt reaching 91.79 meters. With this silver medal, India’s total count at the Paris Olympics rose to five, following a bronze in men’s hockey. Chopra’s achievement makes him the second male athlete from India to win two Olympic medals in a single event since independence.
