Zomato to Eliminate AI-Generated Food Photos After User Complaints

Zomato has decided to remove AI-generated food images from its platform following a wave of customer complaints. The decision came after CEO Deepinder Goyal acknowledged that these artificial images were causing trust issues between diners and restaurants. Users had expressed dissatisfaction with misleading visuals, leading to more refund requests and lower ratings for restaurants.

Goyal stated that the company will start removing these AI-generated images by the end of the month and has urged restaurant partners to stop using such images for their menus. Instead, Zomato will support restaurants with free food photography services to ensure authenticity.

This shift comes after Zomato’s introduction of PicNic AI (Picture Nicely AI), a tool designed to enhance food image quality. Despite the discontinuation of this tool, Zomato has recently reported significant financial growth, with a 74% increase in revenue to Rs. 4,206 crore for Q1 FY25 and a 126% rise in net profit to Rs. 253 crore.
