Thiruvananthapuram: A 13-year-old girl from Assam, who was recently found in Visakhapatnam after going missing from Thiruvananthapuram, will continue to remain under the custody of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Shaniba Begum, the CWC Chairperson, stated that the girl has expressed a strong desire to stay with the CWC rather than return to her parents. According to the chairperson, the child revealed that she ran away from home due to her mother’s harsh treatment, which included frequent chores and physical punishment.
The girl recounted her journey, explaining that a woman on the train offered her biryani, and after eating, she fell asleep, only to wake up in Visakhapatnam surrounded by police officers and members of a Malayali association. She expressed a preference for staying in Kerala rather than returning to Assam. The CWC plans to provide counseling for both the child and her parents to address the situation.
The girl was found in Visakhapatnam after 37 hours of disappearance, following a quarrel with her mother. She had initially left for Kanyakumari with just Rs 50 and later took a train to West Bengal. The girl was eventually located thanks to a photo taken by a Malayali passenger, which aided the police in tracking her down.
