WhatsApp is preparing to roll out new features that will allow users to add music and tag friends in their Status Updates, similar to functionalities available on Instagram. Carl Woog, VP of Global Communications at WhatsApp, shared this exciting news during an exclusive interview with Times Now Tech at an event in Delhi. Although a specific launch date has not yet been announced, Woog assured that these features are currently in development.
In addition to music integration, users will soon be able to tag friends in their Status Updates. Woog emphasized that privacy is a key consideration in the development of these new features. “We want to implement these features in a way that ensures privacy, so tags will be visible only to a limited audience,” he said.
Regarding the timeline for these updates, Woog expressed optimism about their imminent release, stating, “Hopefully, very soon.”
During the interview, Woog also addressed how WhatsApp plans to handle Meta AI while complying with Indian laws. He highlighted that users will be informed about how Meta AI functions and emphasized that only content sent directly to AI will be accessible by AI, with all other communications remaining private and encrypted. Woog assured that users will have full control over their interactions with AI and can access detailed information about privacy protections on WhatsApp’s website.
As part of its commitment to user education, WhatsApp will leverage its social channels to raise awareness about AI usage and privacy features. Although no new announcements were made, Woog hinted at future efforts to further educate users on these topics.
