Fuel Price Update for September 23: What to Expect Across Major Cities

Petrol and Diesel Prices Fluctuate Based on Crude Oil Costs and Government Taxes

As of September 23, the latest updates on petrol and diesel prices have been announced, revealing significant variations across major Indian cities. These fluctuations are influenced by several factors, including crude oil prices, exchange rates, and the taxes levied by both central and state governments. Every day at 6 a.m., oil marketing companies (OMCs) publish the updated prices, ensuring that consumers are informed of any changes despite the inherent volatility of fuel commodities.

In Delhi, petrol is priced at Rs 94.72 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 87.62. Mumbai sees higher rates, with petrol at Rs 103.44 and diesel at Rs 89.97. Bengaluru and Chennai also report substantial prices, with petrol at Rs 102.86 and Rs 100.98, respectively, while diesel is priced at Rs 88.94 and Rs 92.56. Kolkata’s petrol price stands at Rs 104.95 and diesel at Rs 91.76. Hyderabad experiences the highest prices, with petrol at Rs 107.41 and diesel at Rs 95.65.

The cost of crude oil directly impacts these fuel prices, as it is the primary raw material used in fuel production. Moreover, as a major importer of crude oil, India’s petrol and diesel prices are significantly affected by the exchange rate between the Indian rupee and the US dollar. The diverse taxation policies imposed by state governments further contribute to the final pricing, resulting in a broad range of fuel costs across the country.
