Tata Motors has officially introduced the CNG variant of its popular Nexon SUV in India, starting at an ex-showroom price of Rs 8.99 lakh. This model stands out as the first SUV in the country to feature a turbocharged CNG engine, available in eight different variants. The highest variant, the Fearless+ PS manual, is priced at Rs 14.59 lakh (ex-showroom). This launch adds to Tata’s growing lineup of iCNG vehicles, which already includes the Tiago iCNG, Punch iCNG, and Altroz iCNG.
One of the significant features of the Nexon iCNG is its innovative dual-cylinder setup, allowing for a more spacious boot capacity of 321 liters while maintaining a water storage equivalent of 60 liters. The launch is strategic for Tata Motors, as CNG vehicles currently represent around 21 percent of total vehicle sales in the market. With this new model, Tata is positioned to compete more effectively against rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, which is priced between Rs 9.29 lakh and Rs 10.65 lakh (ex-showroom).
In comparison, the standard Nexon starts at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making the CNG variant approximately Rs 1 lakh more expensive. The Nexon iCNG is available in various trims, including Smart, Smart +, Pure, Creative, and others. The top-spec variant boasts an array of advanced features, including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment display, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats, alongside luxurious leatherette upholstery. Safety is also a priority, with features such as six airbags, electronic stability control, front parking sensors, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The Nexon iCNG is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that delivers 100 horsepower and 170 Nm of peak torque. While this power output is about 20 hp lower than that of the petrol variant, the engine can be paired with either a manual transmission or an AMT gearbox, making it a versatile choice for consumers seeking a reliable and fuel-efficient SUV.
