IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in Kerala

Thunderstorm Warnings in Thiruvananthapuram with Precautionary Measures Across the State

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rain and thunderstorms in parts of Kerala, issuing a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram and several other districts. For the next three hours, Thiruvananthapuram is expected to experience significant thunderstorms accompanied by intense lightning and rain. The IMD has advised residents to exercise caution due to the potential for heavy downpours and stormy weather.

Additional rainfall with thundershowers and gusty winds below 40 kmph are likely in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Ernakulam. Light rain is anticipated in isolated parts of these regions, and thunderstorms are expected to persist throughout Kerala until Sunday. This warning follows a recent tragic incident in Thiruvananthapuram where a teenager lost their life due to a lightning strike, underscoring the importance of taking precautions.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki districts on Friday. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about weather conditions, avoid unnecessary travel, and take measures to stay safe in lightning-prone areas.

As the weather conditions intensify, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, particularly during outdoor activities. People are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid using electronic devices plugged into outlets, and refrain from seeking shelter under isolated trees, which can increase the risk of lightning strikes. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary to keep residents informed and safe.
