Traveling between India and the UAE? Passengers must be aware of the updated list of items prohibited in check-in and cabin baggage, as per guidelines issued by airport authorities, customs, and civil aviation regulators. While some items may be allowed in checked baggage, they are restricted in cabin luggage, and vice versa.
Here is a summary of the restricted items:
Ghee and Butter: Classified as liquids, aerosols, and gels, these are not permitted in cabin luggage if they exceed 100 ml. However, passengers can carry up to five kilograms of ghee in checked baggage, subject to airline-specific policies.
Pickles: While most pickles are allowed in both cabin and checked luggage, chili pickles are prohibited in cabin baggage.
Copra (Dried Coconut): As of March 2022, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) prohibits carrying copra in both cabin and check-in baggage.
E-Cigarettes: These are strictly forbidden in both types of luggage.
Spices: While powdered and whole spices are allowed in checked baggage, they cannot be carried in cabin luggage.
Travelers are advised to consult airline-specific guidelines and customs regulations for the latest updates. The UAE’s Federal Customs Authority has also released a comprehensive list of banned items to ensure passengers comply with local laws. Awareness of these restrictions will help avoid inconveniences during air travel.
