New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has revealed in his election affidavit that he is currently involved in 14 criminal cases. These include a case linked to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Amethi and other allegations concerning irregularities in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy. This marks an increase from the 13 cases listed in his affidavit during the 2020 Assembly elections.
Kejriwal declared cash holdings of Rs 40,000, while his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, reported Rs 32,000. The affidavit shows Kejriwal’s movable assets at Rs 3.46 lakh, while Sunita’s have risen significantly to Rs 1 crore, compared to Rs 57 lakh in 2020. Their immovable assets are valued at Rs 1.7 crore and Rs 1.5 crore, respectively.
Although Kejriwal does not own a car or house, Sunita drives a 2017 Maruti Baleno and owns jewellery worth Rs 25.9 lakh, including 320 grams of gold. The couple declared no liabilities. Kejriwal’s income for the 2023-24 period was Rs 7,21,530, derived from his legislative salary, while Sunita earned Rs 14,10,740 from her pension. The affidavit also notes Sunita’s ownership of a house in Gurugram.
Kejriwal seeks re-election as MLA from the New Delhi constituency, where he faces stiff competition from BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit. The constituency is poised for an intense triangular contest, with Verma filing his nomination papers on Wednesday and Dikshit expected to do so shortly.
