Archer Aviation, a US-based company, will commence test flights for its Midnight flying taxi in the UAE this summer to evaluate its performance under extreme temperatures. CEO Adam Goldstein announced that the aircraft, equipped with a Honeywell climate control system, is designed to handle high temperatures exceeding 110°F while maintaining comfortable cabin conditions.
Following the summer tests, Archer plans to conduct survey flights with limited passengers in and around UAE cities, paving the way for a full commercial launch. The company has partnered with Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA), its first ‘Launch Edition’ customer, to deploy an initial fleet of Midnight aircraft. These piloted, four-passenger taxis aim to reduce 60-90-minute car commutes to just 10-30 minutes.
Archer is collaborating with the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to expedite certification and operational approvals. The company will leverage existing infrastructure, such as helicopter landing sites, to establish a five-node vertiport network in Abu Dhabi. Partners like Falcon Aviation will help convert key locations, including Marina Mall and Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, into vertiports.
Goldstein highlighted that the UAE’s progress has sparked interest across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, with several countries exploring early commercial operations. Archer plans to build up to 10 Midnight aircraft this year, with three dedicated to flight testing and the rest for early commercial deployment. This initiative marks a significant step toward revolutionizing urban mobility in the region.
