Karnataka’s Diesel Price Hike Sparks Political Outrage

Opposition Slams Congress Government for ‘Burdening the Common Man’

The Karnataka government has increased diesel prices by ₹2 per litre effective immediately, drawing sharp criticism from the opposition. The price of diesel, which was ₹88.99 per litre before the hike, has now risen further, prompting strong reactions from political leaders and the public.

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, lashed out at the Congress-led Karnataka government, calling it a “price-hike demon government.” He alleged that within the past 10 months, the diesel price has been increased by ₹5 per litre, adding that such moves are worsening the financial burden on the people.

“On Ugadi, a festival symbolizing new beginnings, the government has instead imposed fresh hardships on the people. This is nothing but organized loot by the ‘Karnataka East India Congress Company.’ The government lacks both vision and compassion, leaving citizens with no choice but to protest against its exploitative policies,” said Kumaraswamy.

Opposition Condemns the Price Hike

BJP Karnataka President B.Y. Vijayendra also condemned the hike, calling it “yet another blow to the common man.”

“The Siddaramaiah government’s insatiable greed has once again surfaced. Increasing diesel prices by ₹2 per litre will cripple the common man, affecting farmers, daily wage workers, the elderly, and salaried individuals. Every new decision of this government adds to the people’s suffering instead of offering relief,” Vijayendra stated.

He further added, “We will not rest until these inhumane price hikes are reversed. Karnataka deserves better, and this exploitation must end.”

Backlash Amid Other Price Hikes

The diesel price increase has come as a shock to citizens, especially as it follows other recent price hikes, including an increase in milk prices by ₹4 per litre and revised electricity tariffs. The government issued the notification of the diesel price hike by the end of the day, adding to the financial strain on consumers.

With growing public discontent and opposition parties mobilizing protests, the Karnataka government is now facing intense scrutiny over its economic policies.
