
A tragic incident unfolded during the final match of a football tournament held in Pallarimangalam, Kothamangalam, where a temporary spectator gallery collapsed, injuring more than 22 people. The accident occurred around 10 PM at the Malik Dinar Public School grounds, where a large crowd had gathered to witness the finale. The gallery, which was constructed using iron frames and wooden planks, gave way suddenly, causing hundreds of fans to fall and many to be trapped under the collapsed structure.
Initial rescue efforts were undertaken by people at the site, who rushed to help the injured. Shortly after, fire and rescue teams and police personnel arrived to assist with the operation. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals, including Kothamangalam Mar Baselios Hospital, Dharmagiri, and the Taluk Hospital, while those with serious injuries were referred to Aluva Rajagiri Hospital for advanced treatment.
The event, hosted by Adivad Hero Youngs Club, had attracted an estimated crowd of around 4,000 spectators. Authorities are now investigating whether the structure was properly approved and reinforced for the large gathering. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding safety standards at public sporting events, particularly in temporary venues. Authorities have since launched an inquiry into the cause of the collapse, focusing on whether the temporary structure met safety regulations and if adequate precautions were taken for crowd control.
