Thiruvananthapuram: Security measures were heightened at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and Thampanoor Railway Station on Sunday following bomb threats. A suspicious email was sent to the airport manager around noon, prompting immediate searches. However, after a thorough investigation, authorities determined that the threat was a hoax. Meanwhile, a bomb squad was also deployed to inspect Thampanoor Railway Station as a precaution.
The scare extended beyond transportation hubs, as several collectorates across the state—including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Palakkad, and Kottayam—received similar threatening messages. Despite extensive searches, no suspicious items were found.
This wave of threats follows bomb scare emails sent to several hotels in Thiruvananthapuram city the previous day. The Hilton Garden Hotel and Gokulam Grand Hotel in Akkulam were among those targeted. Upon receiving the messages, hotel authorities swiftly alerted the police, leading to quick action.
Hotels near the Secretariat and Akkulam Bridge also received threatening emails around 11 am. Police, along with bomb squads and sniffer dogs, thoroughly inspected the premises but found nothing unusual. Fire and rescue teams were on standby during the operation. Notably, hotel operations continued without evacuating guests, and scheduled events proceeded as planned after authorities cleared the sites.
The police are continuing investigations to trace the source of the hoax emails and ensure public safety.
