Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant faced yet another setback in his troubled IPL season, being slapped with a ₹24 lakh fine for a slow over-rate during his team’s 54-run defeat to Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
According to a statement from the IPL, this was LSG’s second offence under Article 2.22 of the tournament’s Code of Conduct, which deals with maintaining the minimum over-rate during matches.
“In accordance with the Code of Conduct, Pant has been fined INR 24 lakhs,” the release said. “The rest of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, have been fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.”
Mumbai Indians posted a formidable 215 for 7 before bundling out Lucknow for 161, clinching their fifth consecutive win of the season. The defeat and subsequent penalty highlight the mounting pressure on Pant, whose performances and leadership are under intense scrutiny this IPL season.
With the IPL entering its crucial phase, Pant and the Lucknow Super Giants will need to regroup quickly to stay in playoff contention. However, repeated slow over-rate offences and inconsistent performances could further dent their campaign, making the road ahead even more challenging for the young skipper.
