Kochi: Kerala Blasters delivered a stellar performance on their home turf, defeating Chennaiyin FC 3-0 in the Indian Super League 2024-25 match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi. The victory marked a commanding display by the Blasters, who capitalized on Chennaiyin’s weakened lineup.
Chennaiyin FC faced a tough challenge, with key players Connor Shields sidelined due to illness and defender PC Laldinpuia out following a suspension. In their absence, Lukas Brambilla and Mandar Rao Dessai stepped in, with Brambilla impressing early on by testing the Kerala goalkeeper with a sharp free-kick. Wilmar Jordan Gil also showed promise, narrowly missing a lobbed effort after outmuscling Kerala’s defense.
Despite a strong start, Chennaiyin’s defensive efforts were undone early in the second half when Jesus Jimenez struck the opener for Kerala. Chennaiyin nearly equalized through Farukh Choudhary, whose volley narrowly missed the target, and Brambilla came close to scoring but was denied by a crucial block. Kerala sealed the win with two more goals, one in the 70th minute and another in stoppage time.
Chennaiyin FC will now aim to regroup and recover as they prepare to face Mohun Bagan Super Giant on November 30. Kerala Blasters, on the other hand, will look to build on this dominant performance as they continue their ISL campaign.
