The charming village of Malarikkal in Kerala’s Kottayam district is ready to captivate visitors with its annual water lily display. Known for its vibrant and colorful water lilies, the spectacle typically peaks during the months of July, August, and September and continues until the end of October. This year, the flowers have taken a bit longer to bloom, but both white and pink lilies are now gracing the area, creating a stunning visual treat.
Tourists have already begun arriving to experience this natural wonder, and special canoes from Kanyakumari have been brought in to enhance the visitor experience. These boats allow guests to get a closer view of the blooming lilies and appreciate the full range of colors on display. In addition to Malarikkal, water lilies have also been seen in other locations in the district, such as Ampattukadavu in Panachikkad and Kizhakkupuram Kadavu in Kollad.
To reach Malarikkal, visitors should arrive at Illikkal Junction from Kottayam and turn left onto Thiruvarppu Road. Crossing the bridge on Kanjiram Boat Jetty Road will lead directly to Malarikkal. Those coming from Kumarakom should take a right turn at Illikkal and follow Thiruvarppu Road. For the best experience, it’s recommended to visit early in the morning before 7 a.m., as the flowers tend to droop with the rising temperatures.
