In the upcoming film Devara, NTR portrays two characters: a young version of himself, Vara, and a seasoned elder NTR. Marathi actress Shruti Marathe has been cast as elder NTR’s wife. In a recent interview, director Koratala Siva discussed the rationale behind selecting Marathe for this pivotal role, emphasizing that he did not want her to come across as a secondary heroine in the film. He expressed the need for an actress who would enhance Devara’s character and personality.
Scheduled for release on September 27, Devara features NTR in dual roles, with Janhvi Kapoor playing the love interest of young NTR. Koratala Siva elaborated on his casting choice for Marathe during promotional activities for the film.
Shruti Marathe as NTR’s Wife
In his explanation, the director revealed that he aimed to cast an actress who would not project a secondary role. He sought someone who would resonate with Devara’s image and persona, highlighting that he wanted her to possess a realistic appeal while also refreshing the character. Koratala pointed out that casting a well-known actress could overshadow the role due to their established image.
“I wanted to cast an actress who doesn’t give the impression of being a second heroine. I was looking for someone who complements Devara’s image and personality. The actress should provide a fresh perspective to the role,” stated Koratala Siva.
Avoiding Baggage
He further noted, “Had I chosen a familiar actress or a star with an established image, their persona might have overshadowed the character. This could dilute the role’s impact. When you see Shruti Marathe in the film, you will recognize that she was the perfect choice for the role. She has performed exceptionally well,” Koratala Siva explained.
