Starting December 2024, Air India will deploy the state-of-the-art A320neo aircraft, inherited from Vistara, on its five busiest metro routes—Delhi-Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai-Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. These aircraft, equipped with business, premium economy, and economy seating, aim to deliver an enhanced travel experience that combines the strengths of both airlines post-merger.
Passengers can look forward to eight plush business class seats featuring 41-inch pitch and reclining capabilities, a premium economy section with 24 extra-legroom seats offering 33-inch pitch, and a spacious economy cabin with 132 seats at 29-inch pitch. This move ensures that even routine flights will carry the luxury and quality associated with Vistara, a strategic step to retain and grow Air India’s passenger base.
Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, emphasized that the merger has unlocked significant potential to improve customer service. Deploying these advanced aircraft on high-demand routes meets the demand for frequent, full-service flights. The airline plans to expand this initiative to additional routes as more retrofitted aircraft join the fleet by 2025.
Flights will operate with four-digit numbers starting with “2,” such as AI2999 on Delhi-Mumbai routes. Additionally, Air India will continue to operate select widebody flights between Delhi and other metro cities, enhancing its offerings with Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 aircraft.
This strategic alignment, supported by a streamlined schedule to ensure optimal frequency, reflects Air India’s commitment to setting new standards in domestic air travel while maximizing the benefits of the recently completed merger with Vistara.
