Malayalam film actor Jayasurya, who has been accused of sexual assault by female colleagues, publicly responded to the allegations on Sunday, expressing deep emotional distress and denying any wrongdoing. The 46-year-old actor, who is currently facing multiple FIRs, asserted that the charges against him are baseless and vowed to fight the legal battle to clear his name.
Jayasurya revealed that he and his family have been in America for the past month due to personal commitments, during which time the accusations emerged. He stated that the allegations have been devastating for him, his family, and those close to him. The actor emphasized the emotional toll of facing false accusations, equating it to the pain of actual harassment.
Determined to prove his innocence, Jayasurya confirmed that his legal team will handle the proceedings moving forward. He expressed confidence in the judicial system, stating, “False allegations are easy to make for anyone who lacks a conscience. A lie always travels faster than the truth, but I believe truth will prevail.”
The accusations against Jayasurya are part of a broader wave of allegations in the Malayalam film industry, following the revelations from the Justice K Hema Committee report, which highlighted widespread harassment and exploitation of women. The Kerala police have registered a second FIR against Jayasurya under IPC Section 354 for allegedly molesting a female actor on a movie set between 2012 and 2013. Several other prominent industry figures, including actor and MLA Mukesh, have also been implicated in similar cases, leading to a significant upheaval in the industry.
