The upcoming Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, anticipated to open by December, promises to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun. Currently, the journey from Delhi to Dehradun takes approximately 5 hours, but the new expressway will cut this time by nearly 50%, allowing travelers to complete the trip in just 2.5 hours.
The expressway will streamline travel from Akshardham in Delhi to Dehradun, offering a quicker and more efficient route for both leisure and business travelers. One of the most notable features of the project is the 12-kilometre elevated wildlife corridor. This feature, along with an animal underpass, aims to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts within the Rajaji National Park and Shiwalik Reserve forests. These measures highlight the project’s commitment to environmental preservation while enhancing travel convenience.
The expressway’s initial phase, extending from Akshardham to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) interchange, is slated to begin operations by November 2023. This section will alleviate the daily traffic congestion faced by commuters in Delhi. However, the controlled link road to Haridwar, which will further enhance connectivity, is expected to be completed by 2025.
Additionally, the expressway will feature multiple entry and exit points, catering to various travel needs across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi-EPE segment includes a 19-kilometre elevated roadway dedicated to through traffic, with a six-lane service road below to manage local traffic, ensuring a smooth and efficient travel experience for all users.
