
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rains in the state on Friday. As a result, an orange alert has been announced in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. Meanwhile, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Idukki are on yellow alert.
Due to the continuous heavy rain, a holiday has been declared for educational institutions in five districts. Partial holidays have also been declared in Malappuram and Idukki. The Director of Public Education has confirmed that schools, including higher secondary and vocational higher secondary in Kozhikode, will remain closed today. Pre-scheduled exams and PSC exams will proceed as planned.
In Kannur, Wayanad, and Palakkad, all educational institutions are closed, while in Kasaragod, the holiday applies to all educational institutions except colleges. Model Residential and Navodaya Schools are not affected by the holiday.
Additionally, there is a warning of high waves and rough seas along the Kerala coast, with specific caution advised for those on the beaches of Kannur and Kasaragod. A ban on fishing remains in place, and there is a possibility of the Kallakadal phenomenon.
