Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan recently received a prestigious career achievement award at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. Known for his charismatic presence and witty remarks, Khan’s acceptance speech was a blend of heartfelt reflections on cinema and his trademark humor. Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd of 8,000 in Locarno’s Piazza Grande, Khan humorously acknowledged the warm reception, playfully comparing it to his famous on-screen open-armed pose.
In his speech, Khan also paid tribute to the festival’s vibrant setting, despite the sweltering heat. He noted, “It’s a very beautiful, very cultural, very artistic, and extremely hot city of Locarno.” He compared the heat to the familiar warmth of India, creating a humorous connection with the audience. As the temperature soared to 35 degrees Celsius, Khan’s remarks about the weather and the crowd’s discomfort added a relatable touch to his address.
Turning to a more contemplative tone, Khan shared his views on cinema and art. He described cinema as a profoundly influential artistic medium and expressed his belief in the universal nature of art. According to Khan, “Art is the act of affirming life above all,” and should transcend boundaries without being political or intellectual. He emphasized that true creativity comes from expressing genuine emotions and personal truths, underscoring his deep appreciation for the art form.
