The Kerala weather department has forecasted widespread rain across the state for the coming week, with the possibility of isolated heavy downpours in several regions. As a precaution, a yellow alert has been issued for seven districts today—Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur. The weather conditions are expected to intensify tomorrow as well, with an additional yellow alert declared for Thiruvananthapuram and nearby areas.
In response to the forecasted rough seas and high waves, fishing activities along the Kerala coast have been prohibited for the next two days. The Central Meteorological Department has specifically advised against fishing off the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts on September 29 and 30, 2024, due to the high risk of dangerous sea conditions. However, the same restrictions do not apply to the Karnataka coast, where fishing is permitted during this period.
The meteorological office has also warned of strong winds reaching speeds between 45 to 55 kmph, with gusts potentially rising up to 65 kmph, particularly in the western parts of the Southwest Arabian Sea and nearby Central West Arabian Sea regions. Residents and fishermen are advised to stay alert and follow safety instructions as heavy rains and strong winds are expected to persist over the next few days.
