In response to the devastating landslides in Wayanad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences and announced financial relief measures. He revealed on X that Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of those who lost their lives, and Rs 50,000 will be provided to the injured from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Modi also stated that he has been in touch with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and has assured full support for the ongoing rescue efforts. Ministers of State Suresh Gopi and George Kurien have been tasked with coordinating the mission, with Kurien already en route to Wayanad.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also reached out to the Chief Minister, offering assistance, while officials have been instructed to oversee the coordination of disaster management efforts. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has directed Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to ensure that the army supports the rescue operations.
In addition, Bengal Governor Dr. CV Ananda Bose has arrived in Kozhikode to visit the affected areas and offer condolences to the victims’ families. He has expressed solidarity with Kerala and plans to meet with Union Minister of State George Kurien to discuss coordination with central agencies. Dr. Bose has conveyed his condolences to those affected and assured that the country stands with Kerala in its recovery efforts.
The CPM Politburo has also expressed sorrow over the tragedy, extending their condolences to the bereaved families. They commended the state government’s intensive rescue operations and urged the central government to provide comprehensive support for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
