The vibrant hill station of Ooty is once again in full bloom with the arrival of the much-anticipated Ooty Flower Show 2024. This annual celebration of flora is drawing huge crowds of nature lovers and tourists from across India and abroad. Held at the Government Botanical Garden, the event is famous for its intricate floral art installations and cultural festivities.
This year’s star attraction is a breathtaking replica of the Chola king Rajaraja Cholan’s palace, meticulously crafted using an astonishing two lakh carnations and marigolds. Spanning 75 feet in width and rising 25 feet high, this floral structure is a stunning tribute to Tamil heritage and creative floral design.
Visitors are also treated to other elaborate floral sculptures, including a life-sized elephant, a swing, a royal throne, a selfie booth, a waterfall, and an eight-foot-tall crane created from over 50,000 blossoms. In addition to the garden’s existing floral displays, around 30,000 new flower plants have been planted to enhance the visual experience.
Cultural performances by Ooty’s Thodar, Kothar, Badukar, and Tibetan communities added vibrancy to the opening ceremony. The event also features informative stalls from departments such as horticulture, agriculture, forestry, tourism, and tribal affairs.
The flower show will remain open until May 25, offering visitors a perfect mix of nature, culture, and artistry against the picturesque backdrop of the Nilgiris.
