Guruvayur: Guruvayur is set to witness a historic event as the Sri Krishna Temple prepares to host an unprecedented number of weddings this Sunday. The temple has announced that over 350 couples will be tying the knot in what promises to be a record-breaking day of nuptials. This surpasses the previous record of 277 weddings, which was set on August 26, 2017. Before that, the highest number of weddings in a single day was 264, recorded on September 4, 2016.
This Sunday is considered one of the most auspicious days in the month of Chingam, drawing couples from across the state to the revered temple. In anticipation of the large number of ceremonies, the Guruvayur Devaswom has made extensive preparations. This includes setting up six marriage mandapams, an increase from the usual four, to accommodate the couples and their guests. Weddings are scheduled to begin at 5 am, with the possibility of an earlier start depending on the approval of the Tantri.
A special pandal has been erected near the Pattar pond south of the temple to provide space for brides, grooms, and their families. Each wedding party, which can include up to 20 people, will be admitted based on token allotment. Access to the mandapams will be through the Melpathur Auditorium, with relatives able to enter from the east side. To ensure smooth proceedings, the queue for temple darshan will be rerouted to the north side, starting from the walkway in front of the pond.
To manage the expected influx of visitors, parking on the inner ring road will be restricted, and the police have requested additional parking arrangements from the Devaswom and the Municipal Corporation. The ceremonies will continue without interruption between 8 am and 11 am, with a break from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm for ‘Nivedyam.’ This meticulous planning underscores the temple’s commitment to ensuring a memorable and orderly experience for all participants in this historic celebration.
