The political atmosphere in Nilambur is intensifying as the by-election campaign officially begins. The United Democratic Front (UDF) has taken the lead by launching its campaign today, soon after confirming its candidate—Aryadan Shoukath. His campaign began early in the morning with a visit to the grave of his father, veteran Congress leader Aryadan Mohammed. By 10 AM, Shoukath is expected to reach Panakkad, and at 3 PM, a major UDF convention will take place in Nilambur with the participation of KPCC President and the Leader of the Opposition.
On the other side, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is yet to announce its candidate, though intense internal discussions are underway. The alliance is debating whether to field a candidate under the party symbol or to nominate a well-known independent who could potentially draw support beyond the traditional left vote bank. Among the names being considered is M. Swaraj, a member of the CPI(M) state secretariat.
Meanwhile, the moves of P.V. Anvar, a significant local political figure, are being closely watched. His meetings with UDF leaders today could play a decisive role in shaping the political alignments ahead of the poll. The Nilambur constituency committee of the LDF is expected to convey its recommendation to the state leadership today, marking a crucial day in the run-up to the by-election.
