The state of Kerala continues to be battered by intense rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red and orange alerts across several districts. Today, three districts—Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur—are under a Red Alert, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. In addition, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kasaragod have been placed under an Orange Alert, warning of very heavy rain in isolated places.
The remaining districts will remain under a Yellow Alert, suggesting the likelihood of heavy showers but with relatively less intensity. Meteorologists have predicted that the ongoing spell of severe weather will persist over the next few days.
In addition to the rainfall alerts, a coastal alert has been issued for nine districts due to the possibility of sea incursion and high waves. The affected districts include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Residents living in coastal areas are advised to stay vigilant and avoid venturing near the sea.
Moreover, a ban on fishing along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts remains in force until May 30 due to dangerous sea conditions. Authorities are urging the public and fishermen to strictly follow the safety guidelines issued by the Disaster Management Department and the IMD to prevent any mishaps during this period of extreme weather.
