In a move aimed at strengthening tourism and educational ties, China has introduced a range of relaxed visa guidelines for Indian nationals. The Chinese Embassy in India recently revealed that over 85,000 visas have already been issued to Indian citizens in 2024, up to April. Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, extended a warm invitation to Indian tourists to explore the country, highlighting the cultural richness, festivals, and world-class educational opportunities China has to offer.
The streamlined visa process includes several new measures designed to simplify and speed up the procedure for applicants. These include a significant reduction in visa fees, the ability for individuals to apply directly at Chinese visa centers during working days without requiring a prior appointment, and relaxed requirements for biometric submissions, particularly for short-term visitors. Additionally, the processing time for visas has been notably improved, with efforts to minimize delays and make approvals more efficient.
This welcoming policy marks a significant shift from the restrictions placed on international travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had greatly impacted travel between India and China. With these updated rules, Chinese authorities are hoping to not only revive tourism but also encourage more Indian students to take advantage of the growing educational programs available in Chinese universities.
