Efforts to determine additional vacancies in Kerala schools have faced setbacks, with approximately 2,000 identified posts in government and aided sectors remaining unfilled. Despite visits to over 2,000 schools, the process encountered a major hurdle when the Finance Department returned the file last week.
Schools with lower student enrollment are set to lose identified posts by July 15. The Education Department has proposed discarding last year’s figures and starting afresh based on data from the 2022-23 academic year.
This decision will double the workload for Assistant Educational Officers (AEOs), District Educational Officers (DEOs), and Deputy Directors (DDs), who will need to revisit schools where additional posts were earmarked last year. Sources indicate that delays in appointing staff stemmed from financial constraints, with information on these vacancies reportedly held back.
