Dubai: To address the rising number of road violations, the UAE is ramping up its traffic enforcement with sophisticated new surveillance technology. Cutting-edge cameras are being installed across the country to detect and penalize violations like mobile phone use and seat belt non-compliance, even bypassing tinted windows to capture clear footage. The aim is to improve road safety and reduce accident rates across all emirates.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, the Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, highlighted the effectiveness of these advanced traffic cameras, noting a high detection rate of mobile phone use, reading, and other risky behaviors while driving. He issued a reminder to all drivers that violations such as turning without signaling, mobile use, and other dangerous practices can lead to severe penalties.
Offenders face significant consequences, including vehicle impoundment for up to 30 days. Fines for such violations range from Dh400 (about Rs 9,189) to Dh1,000 (around Rs 22,973), alongside four black points on the driver’s record. As road safety enforcement strengthens, all drivers, especially expatriates, are urged to adhere to the new measures to avoid penalties and help ensure safer roads for everyone in the UAE.
