Kochi: The Hema Committee report continues to stir debates in the Malayalam film industry as further revelations are anticipated. Reports indicate that the unreleased sections of the report could potentially initiate a POCSO case, intensifying the existing controversies. A last-minute stay application disrupted the process just before the Right to Information (RTI) Commission could mandate the disclosure of these critical parts. This unexpected move came at 10:50 am, moments before the scheduled verdict at 11:00 am on December 7.
Previously, the government omitted several significant pages of the report, despite the RTI Commission’s directive to release the complete document. Following the appeal by journalists, the Commission emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness, noting that those who paid for the report under the RTI Act must receive the omitted sections. While the Department of Culture issued an apology, the RTI Commission found their explanation inadequate and rejected it.
The delayed revelations have attracted significant public interest, as they could provide key insights into the Special Investigation Team’s ongoing inquiries. Despite prior investigation efforts, the progress has been minimal. The government has reassured that the Commission’s directive will eventually be honored, ensuring accountability and clarity in addressing this sensitive matter.
