Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured comprehensive support for the relief and rehabilitation efforts in Wayanad following the devastating landslides. Speaking at a review meeting at the District Collectorate, Modi expressed deep sympathy for the survivors, acknowledging the disaster’s profound impact on many families. He emphasized the Centre’s commitment to assist alongside the Kerala government in aiding those who have lost everything. The landslides have resulted in 226 confirmed deaths and over 130 people reported missing.
During his visit, Modi conducted an aerial survey of the affected regions of Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattam, and later traveled to the site by road. He inspected a newly constructed Bailey bridge and surveyed the damage firsthand. Modi also visited a relief camp and interacted with displaced individuals, including children who lost their families. His visit included meeting survivors at Dr Moopen’s Medical College, where many injured are being treated, and he assured them of necessary support.
Accompanied by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and other officials, Modi’s visit underscores the Centre’s resolve to aid the state in its recovery efforts.
