Washington: President Joe Biden has condemned the recent political violence, affirming that “there is no place for violence in our country,” following a shooting incident at former President Donald Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The attack is being investigated as an attempted assassination, with Biden acknowledging law enforcement’s efforts in keeping Trump safe. He emphasized that the Secret Service would continue to receive all necessary resources to ensure the safety of the former President.
In a statement, Biden confirmed he had been briefed on the shooting, adding, “A suspect is in custody, and I commend the Secret Service and law enforcement for their vigilance. I am relieved that the former President is unharmed.” Investigators are actively working to gather further details.
The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh from Hawaii, allegedly attempted to assassinate Trump while he was playing golf. Routh, who had previously worked as a construction worker in North Carolina, is said to have tried recruiting fighters to support Ukraine against Russia. The FBI is leading the investigation and revealed that an AK-47-style rifle and other items were found at the scene.
The incident occurred at the Trump International Golf Club, with a Secret Service agent spotting the weapon from a distance and quickly securing the area. A witness helped identify the suspect, leading to his swift arrest.
This was the second assassination attempt on Trump in two months; a previous attempt in July in Pennsylvania left him slightly injured. Trump reassured the public in a statement, saying, “I AM SAFE AND WELL.”
Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed relief over Trump’s safety, reiterating that violence has no place in America.
