Chandy Oommen, the son of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, has been nominated as the candidate for the Puthuppally by-election by the Congress-led UDF. The announcement was made by KPCC president K Sudhakran in New Delhi shortly after the Election Commission revealed that the by-election for the Kerala Assembly seat in Puthuppally and five other constituencies in different states will take place on 5 September. The bypoll is being held due to the passing of former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy on 18 July.
