Gold Rates Surge in Kerala Amid Wedding Season, Sparking Buyer Dilemma

Prices Rise Sharply, Adding Pressure to Families During Peak Wedding Period

Gold rates in Kerala witnessed a sharp increase on Tuesday, adding to the challenges faced by families during the busy wedding season. The price of one sovereign gold rose by Rs 560, reaching Rs 64,080, while 22-carat gold climbed to Rs 8,010 per gram, and 24-carat gold to Rs 8,738 per gram.

Earlier in March, falling gold rates had provided some relief to buyers. However, the recent surge has reignited concerns, especially as India, the world’s largest gold consumer, relies heavily on imports. Global market fluctuations, rupee value, local demand, and import duties significantly influence domestic gold prices.

Local gold associations play a crucial role in determining daily rates, adjusting prices based on demand and updating them twice daily if necessary. Alongside gold, silver prices also rose, with one gram now costing Rs 106 and one kilogram priced at Rs 106,000, up from Rs 105 and Rs 105,000 respectively.

The sudden spike in gold rates has left families in a dilemma, as weddings often require substantial gold purchases. With the wedding season in full swing, the fluctuating prices are adding financial pressure, forcing many to reconsider their budgets and plans. As gold continues to be a cornerstone of weddings and cultural traditions in Kerala, the rising prices highlight the need for careful financial planning. Families are now weighing their options, balancing tradition with affordability, while hoping for a stabilization in gold rates to ease the burden during this festive and celebratory season.
