Full-Body Beginner Workout: Get Fit with Simple Mountain Climbers

A no-equipment, small-space cardio move to build strength and endurance from head to toe

If you’re new to working out and searching for an effective full-body move that doesn’t require fancy gear or a large space, mountain climbers might be the perfect addition to your routine. This dynamic bodyweight exercise is excellent for boosting your heart rate and strengthening major muscle groups, all while being gentle enough for beginners and friendly for apartment spaces.

Mountain climbers primarily engage your core, but they also provide a thorough workout for your arms, legs, shoulders, and even your cardiovascular system. The best part? They require nothing more than a bit of open floor space.

To start, get into a high plank position, ensuring your body forms a straight line and your hands are placed directly under your shoulders. Slowly bring one knee toward your chest, then return it to the starting position and repeat the movement with your other leg. Keep your movements controlled and consistent. Begin with two sets of 10 repetitions, and as you gain confidence, increase your reps and sets gradually.

For added variety and challenge, try cross-body mountain climbers (where your knee moves toward the opposite elbow) or increase the pace with faster mountain climbers once you feel more stable. This move is an excellent way to ease into fitness and build up your endurance over time.
