Trump Recalls Gunshots During Golf: ‘Secret Service Saved the Day’

Trump Describes Potential Assassination Attempt While Launching His Digital Currency Project

In a virtual appearance on an X Spaces event with cryptocurrency entrepreneur Farokh Sarmad, former President Donald Trump recounted a potential assassination attempt on him that occurred on Sunday, September 15. During the event, where he also launched his World Liberty Financial digital currency project, Trump shared details of the incident, praising the quick action of the Secret Service.

Trump described how the day started peacefully, as he was enjoying a round of golf with friends in pleasant weather. Suddenly, they heard four or five gunshots, and the Secret Service immediately recognized them as bullets. Trump recounted how the agents swiftly escorted him off the golf course to ensure his safety. “They grabbed me, and we got into the carts, moving pretty fast,” he said, adding, “I would have loved to have made my last putt, but we decided to get out of there.”

Trump further explained that the shots came from an individual, Ryan Wesley Routh, who was armed with an AK-47. A Secret Service agent spotted the barrel of the rifle and began shooting toward it, ultimately scaring the suspect, who fled in a vehicle. Thanks to the vigilance of a civilian who captured the suspect’s license plate, law enforcement quickly apprehended the dangerous individual.
