Vaikom: Six-year-old Aadi D Nair from Kothamangalam is preparing to take on a remarkable challenge – swimming across the 7-kilometre stretch of the Vembanad Lake. On Saturday, she will attempt this daring feat, starting from Ambalakadavu North in Alappuzha district and finishing at Vaikom Beach in Kottayam district. This ambitious swim aims to secure her a place in the World Wide Book of Records, surpassing the current record distance of 4.5 kilometres.
Aadi, a first-grader at Karukadom St. Mary’s Public School, is the daughter of Dipu and Anjana. Her exceptional determination and passion for swimming have led her to this point after just six months of intensive training. Under the expert guidance of coach and world record holder Biju Thankappan, Aadi has shown tremendous progress in navigating the strong currents of the Muvattupuzha River, building the skills and stamina needed for this 7-kilometre swim.
The Kothamangalam Dolphin Aquatic Club and St. Mary’s Public School are backing Aadi in her quest. She will be the 19th individual to attempt this challenge under the leadership of the aquatic club. Program Coordinator Shihab K. Sainu expressed confidence that Aadi will successfully complete the swim in about one and a half hours, provided the weather remains favourable for the endeavour.
